Car Buyer Discovers New Vehicle Was Stolen
A local woman who purchased a car earlier in the week quickly discovered that it had been reported stolen by an Alabama resident.
The victim filed a complaint with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department indicating that she had purchased a 2009 Toyota Camry from a man in Columbia. She told deputies that when she went to the courthouse to purchase a license plate and apply for a title, she was told that the car had been stolen.
Dispatchers ran the car’s vehicle identification number through the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s National Crime Information Center database and were able to confirm that it had been reported as stolen out of Jackson County, Alabama.
Alabama authorities requested that deputies impound the car pending further investigation.
